Prologue
"Baby you know you mean the world to me." He said in a soft tone, "I love you and I need you. Without you, I’m nothing but a man without his hammer, a dog without his bone. Say you love me and I’ll make your life what it should be," he continued to whisper into my ear.
"Jason, I… I… I can’t love you. You see, you and I weren’t meant for each other. I don't love you like that nor have I ever. I just want to be friends."
"Fine then, Dahlia, see how lovely your life will be when I’m through with it!"
"Jason, wait! Jason. Jason… what, what are you doing?! Jason…!"

Chapter 1
I’m laying here lifeless as thoughts scatter throughout my mind. My past is terrible. I just need a fresh, clean start. Maybe a new town could help me change the way I am…
“Dahlia,” my mother said, “brunch!”
“Okay! I’ll be right there!”
I jumped off my bed and slipped on my fuzzy, unicorn slippers. (Yeah, I love unicorns. Be jealous!) Still in my pajamas, I quickly walked downstairs to receive a mouth-watering brunch. I put on a fake smile so my mom wouldn’t ask me any questions as I walked into the kitchen.
“Good morning, Mom!”
“Dahlia, it is twelve o’clock.”
“Oh, I must of slept later than I thought…”
I eased onto the stool and began eating brunch. Ten minutes later, Hayley called.
"Hey girl hey!"
"Hey Dahlia! How have you been lately?" Hayley asked.
"Hold on a sec..." I finished up brunch and ran upstairs. I locked my door shut. "Okay."
"So?" She questioned.
"I'm still having nightmares... They're getting worse too. Like last night, I had a dream that he was trying to--"
"Oh, no. Dahlia, are you okay? Having these nightmares are unhealthy. Ever since that one time..."
"I don't know what to do, Hayley! I hate this. I want to get out of this town!" I started to weep.
"Dahlia, it's going to be okay. You'll get through this! You can talk to me whenever you need to."
"Thanks, Hayley. I don't know what I'd do without you! Hey, do you want to hang out at the mall at two?"
"Your welcome and sure! I'll see you there!"
"Mmkay. See you there!"
I put the phone down. I scurried over to my closet to find my zebra print Cobra Starship jacket and black skinny jeans. I changed into my clothes and straightened my hair. As I looked in the mirror, an image of my terrifying nightmare flashed before my eyes.
I shrieked, "When will this ever stop?!" Soon, a river of tears came flowing down my cheeks.

Chapter 2
As I cleaned up my tears, I glanced at my car keys on my desk and then looked outside.
"It's too nice of a day to pass up," I said quietly to myself. As I started to open the front door, my mom appeared out of nowhere.
"And where do you think your going, missy?" She questioned.
I replied, "Oh, I'm going for a walk and then I'm going to meet up with Hayley at the mall."
"Alright, honey. Just be back by six."
"Okay, mom."
I shuffled out the door, unlocked my car, and grabbed my purse and iPod. After locking up the automobile, I started to walk down my street. Suddenly, I could feel something... like someone was breathing right in my ear.
"Dahlia...," I heard, "I still love you..."
I started to run screaming in terror. The thought of reliving my nightmare passed through my mind.
I'm in a world of trouble if I don't get help soon…
Nearly twenty minutes later, I had arrived at the mall. Breathless, I was eager to find Hayley. As I passed a couple stores, I stopped. He was here. I could feel it. I continued on down the mall and appeared to find Hayley sitting in Starbucks.
"Dahlia!" She yelled in excitement.
"Hey Hayley!"
We both took our seats, ordered our drinks, and chatted for about an hour. I glanced around the corner of the store. My world had stopped.
Run...
"Why?"
"Because he is here." It takes a lot to scare me, but he scares me the most. Pictures of that horrid night flashed before my eyes. I got up and walked out the door. Suddenly, I felt a very familiar yet cold hand on my shoulder. I automatically froze.
"Well, well, well… Look who we have here. Little Miss Dahlia," He said in a sarcastic tone. “What brings you here, love?”
"Jason what do you want from me?" I tried to sound rude but it just sounded like I was terribly scared.
“Dahlia, I can’t stay away from you. Just give me a chance. I love you! Don’t you understand?”
“Jason, you’re a creep. I really would love it if you would just stay away from me as far as possible! Why can‘t you just---”
Hayley interrupted, “Jason! Why are you here? Come to bother us again with your ignorance?”
“Shut up, Hayley!” Jason snapped, “You can’t do this to me Dahlia… you have to give me a chance!”
“No, Jason. I said no and I mean it! I don’t want to go out with you!”
As we continued talking, Jake, Jason’s best friend, suddenly appeared.
“Hey guys.” Jake said in a welcoming tone.
“Hey Jake,” I smiled. Jake Tyler Watenbarger… I’ve known him since we were little. He’s been there for me ever since pre-K. He trusts me with his life and I trust him. He has told me a million times that I’m one of the only people he can trust. He told me everything and so did I. Yet, he doesn’t know about my nightmares or any of that jazz…
“Hey Dahlia.” He smirked, “Can I talk to you privately for a second?” Jason gave him an evil look.
“Sure!” I said, reassuringly. We both walked over to the bench next to the fountain in the center of the mall, away from Jason and Hayley.
“What did you need?” I asked.
“My mom wanted to know if you and your mom would like to join us this weekend at the lake.”
“Oh, I’d love to go! My mom would probably come too.”
“Cool. So it’s settled then!”
We walked back to find Hayley and Jason still nagging on and on about why Jason was here. I decided I would put a stop to it.
“Hayley, cool it. Jason, leave. Please… for me?” I put on a fake smile.
He grinned, “Anything for you Dahlia! Give me a hug first, love?” I couldn’t stand how he called me ‘love’.
I sighed, “Fine…” He gave me a big, grizzly bear hug. I could feel him running his hand throughout my hair. It disgusted me. Soon, Jason left. Hayley and I started to walk down the mall. Suddenly, I heard a voice.
“Wait up!” It was Jake. Now Jake, Hayley, and I were walking together. As Jake bumped into me, our hands brushed against each other slightly. I could feel this electric vibe moving throughout my body. As I tried to move my hand, I caught him looking at me with a sheepish smile. I couldn’t help but smile back. As I turned around, I could see Jason standing at the corner of Hot Topic, popping his knuckles, with a look of revenge upon his face.
How could someone like him become so cruel and be surrounded by the clouds of jealousy?
I attempted to push away the thoughts of him and the nightmares. I had a trip to plan.
"It's too nice of a day to pass up," I said quietly to myself. As I started to open the front door, my mom appeared out of nowhere.
